Title: My Appreciation Author: Suzette Hart
Thanks Miles for another wonderful interview. I would also like to take this time to thank Dr. Mitchell along with Dr. Ann Butler, Dr. Hill, Dr. Winbush, Dr. Jefferies, and last but not least Dr. Asante for taking their time away from their busy schedules to help educate me on such an important subject. I have learned so much from their interviews. Miles, I can hardly wait until the other professor's interviews are posted. Thanks again........

Title: To Clarence Grigsby Author:Suzette Hart
My name is Suzette Hart, and I was born in Los Angeles California. I have been following Miles Dean from the beginning of his journey, and every since I viewed the interview with Dr. Ann Butler, I have been doing a family tree. When I got to my great grandmother the censors took me back to Kentucy. I found her on a censor back in 1870, she was listed as a 4 year old Mulatto girl. I found her in a house that was owned by a slave owner named Thomas Hart. In the same house where my great grandmother lived I saw on the list an 11 year old male black child with the name Thompson Grigsby.I also found in another house that housed slaves on the same! plantation was a Cornelius Grigsby, he was a 38 year old black man. I know that slaves were given their owners last names but I guess Thomas Hart had bought them from another slave owner with the last name Grigsby. I was just wondering were they your ancestors.........

Title: Dear Mr.Dean Author: Nyreek
Dear Mr.Dean, How are you doing?I am hearing relly great things about you. Are you feeling well? I am really concerned about you. Are you almost near your destination? People said that you will reach there later this month. Every morning at Chacellor the school has to figure out who is the black history person. It is lots of fun because my class always get it right. It is so much fun to learn. Your student, Nyreek
Title: none given Author: Deshaun

Mr. Brown and Mrs. Haygood might let us have an assembly program so you can speak to the students. We all will be so happy when you come back to Chancellor Avenue School. From Dashaun
Title: To Clarence Grigsby Author: Suzette Hart
Clarence, I looked on my slave schedule list and found 53 slave owners with the last name Grigsby in the United States in 1850, but there were only 15 of them living in Kentucy. Out of those 15 only 1 lived in District 2 Henderson Kentucy near the slave owner Thomas Hart who owned my great grandmother along with the other two slaves with the last name Grigsby, and his name was Horace Grigsby....

Title: 8th grade Chancellor student Author: Shanice S.
I love that you are doing a cross-country horseback journey from New York to California. To know that an Arican American is doing this really touched my heart. As I sat down to read one of your articles in the newspaper, it got me thinking...someone is gonna make a change in history. Maybe a word record also. I always knew you would do somenting phenomenal like this. That brings me back to the 6th grade when I had you as a literacy teacher. You would always talk to us about doing a horseback journey. You would talk about your horses and how you owned a stable and a ranch. Then you had to get rid of some horses. See Mr. Dean, I remember you and I think I will always remember you. I wish you further success to finish your journey. I hope that you come back safe and out of harms way. Just don't stress yourself and hurt your kidneys. Don't work your horses too hard either. Anyway Mr. Dean, I miss you and look forward to seeing you again. Sincerely Shanice S. Chancellor Avenue Grade 8

I want to thank you as an African American and a man with your potential and qualitites for taking the time out of life period to show people of every nationality that there are African American Heritage riders. It's not likely for you to hear the word Black cowboy not only in my neighborhood but around God's green earth. Books and movies tell us that when you think of the phrase cowboy you are supposed to think white or your brain automatically thinks Caucasian. But the world has yet to give proper recognition to those important Black riders. As a child from Chancellor Avenue School, I whole heartedly hop and think you will become an important! African American in history and hopefully one day you will have your very own date in black History month that everyone can know and participate in. Everyone can know how INTELLIGENT, BRAVE and UNIQUE YOU ARE! In my heart, you are just as important as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. Thank you so much and know that I am rooting you on through your journey and realize you are important and celebrated by everyone here at Chancellor Avenue School. Be safe Mr. Dean as you ride down a road that will change your life forever! Sincerely, Jasmine W 8th grade at Chancellor Avenue School

Title: Dream come true Author : Vincent Henderson
Dear Miles, I have been reluctant to write you, I always imagine you’re too busy to address one of the many people on your email list, especially while being continually on the road. I thought to reach out to you this time after I watched you’re news video from Texas. Besides being a very well done piece to watch I went through several emotions while watching it. The first was pride at knowing you and being your friend. To think I know that pioneer telecast from the trail is someone I know well, I know his essence. Then the scope of the enormity of what you’re doing and the selfless purpose of the trip and what you’re giving back to so many people took hold. You really are giving something back to all those who have sacrificed before you, and in such grand fashion. The thing that almost brought a tear to my eye was the thought that so many of us have a dream to do a quest or conquer a project and never get a chance to do it. The dream becomes a lost opportunity and a wish of what might have been. You have been blessed to live out your dream and return home with so much more than when you left. This a great thing you’re doing, I think it’s a wonder it’s actually working during the winter months, it’s not the way the Oregon Trail was handled! But you have become a piece of the history of this country, capturing the hearts of all you are able to touch. This will make a great memoir one day, ride on partner! Your Friend, Vincent Henderson
Title: Visit to Castle Rock Author: Althea
Dear Miles, I enjoyed your visit with us at Castle Rock. I have learned a lot from your short visit and it has been an inspiration to learn more. Hope to be able to learn more and keep up with events that are and will be going on. Your friend in Christ, Althea
Title: Compadre Author: Pierre
Hey Amigo, Very inspiring. Such a great way to make a connection with our great country with a magnificent diversity. You draw all these people with that one spirit bringing a lot people across the country to one cowboy and one horse. I know one thing for sure that they have in common, and that is they wish they could go with you. A friend of ours stopped and talked to you today in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. We will donate a few bucks to you to help. See you down the road.
